INTRODUCING TOP TIER ADMISSIONS’ ACADEMIC WRITING PROGRAM!
For years, parents have been asking us to provide experts to help their children improve their writing skills during middle and high school. We heard you, and we are thrilled to introduce our Academic Writing Program, which has been a year in the making.
We’ve always said that reading and writing go hand in hand, sort of like peanut butter and jelly. Voracious readers are generally better writers, and good writers are, in turn, typically insatiable readers. We’ve seen this statement borne out during our 20+ years of working with students. We’ve also seen that writing is one of the most important skills students can develop for success not just in middle school and high school, but also in college and professional life.
Academic writing, in particular, can be a difficult beast to master. It requires a depth of knowledge, a fluid writing style, and an understanding of the requirements of the form you’re producing. Learning to write well, however, will do more than just improve your grades in English class. It will also help you to express yourself clearly to those around you. If you can master this craft early on, it will be a great tool in your life’s box of resources.
ACADEMIC WRITING PROGRAM
During the Academic Writing Program, we will introduce students to the many strategies that can be used to make writing a more comfortable and successful process. We focus on the types of writing commonly practiced in high school—including five-paragraph essays, book reports, reader responses, and research papers—helping students to understand the goals and requirements of each form. All of these writing styles benefit from clear, well-written prose, but the expectations for and format of each type is actually very different.
In this program, we will work with students on one type of writing. This could be one of the options listed above, or it could be totally different (e.g., creative writing, journal entries, etc.). Working with you on only one type of writing at a time allows us to give you precise advice, and it helps you to truly master the material. Along the way, we’ll also carry out exercises that better your overall writing proficiency and the quality of your prose. The end result will be an improved writing style and a nuanced understanding of the demands of an important type of academic writing.
Our program is designed to run over the course of 1-3 weeks and must be used within 6 months from the date of purchase.
