Gap Year Guidance Program

Gap Year Student

Taking a gap year between high school and college can be a wonderful opportunity to explore your interests and develop your future goals. We will help you design a meaningful gap or post-graduate (PG) year that will prepare you to succeed in college and beyond.

The Gap Year Guidance Program includes:

  • Introductory Call: After registration, a call to review main areas of interest and gap year goals
  • Personalized Gap Year Report: A detailed gap year plan based on an analysis of your interests, strengths, academic record, and extracurricular experiences
  • One-hour Phone Consultation with our Gap Year Specialist to discuss your Personalized Gap Year Report and review next steps
  • 3 hours of Writing Guidance and editing via phone and/or email with our Gap Year Specialist to craft a compelling gap year narrative, letters to colleges, gap year program application essays, and more
  • Copy of Top Tier Admissions’ Gap Year e-Guide

* This program must be used within 6 months from the date of purchase.

There are two types of gap years, and we help with both:

  1. Deferred enrollment: After being admitted to a college or university, many students ask for permission to postpone their start date for a year. We advise them to create a gap year that will convince the admissions committee to grant their request.
  2. Post-graduate (PG) year: Many students choose to wait to apply to college until after their high school graduation. We encourage them to strategically plan a gap year that will improve their chances of admission.

High Praise From Past Clients:

I wanted to send you a note to thank you for all the help you have given to P for her college essays. You have helped her so much within such a short period of time. I wish we had found you earlier. We wasted so much time and effort since the summer. I have a 9th grader and I know who to turn to for help now. Thank you, J! I will be in touch. –L.K., Essay Guidance Program parent
L, I CANT BELIEVE IT! We are done with all of the essays! It is my birthday today and I couldn’t have gotten a better birthday present. Thank you so much for responding soooo quickly and helping me in this process. I have learned a lot from you and you are an excellent and kind teacher. I don't think anyone else on this planet could have done a better job than you did. Thanks again! –F.H., Essay Guidance Program student
E, I recently received my decisions for UCLA, UC Berkeley, and Harvard, and I was accepted to all three schools!! Thank you so much for your help last winter; you not only guided me through my applications but also made things much less stressful! –P.T., Essay Guidance Program student
I'm just so deeply grateful for everything that you and M have done for me... for always encouraging me, for giving me the tools to take my application to the next level, and for patiently explaining admissions strategies to me. I also can't even begin to thank you for all the time you spent on the phone rallying me when my confidence was shaken or I felt like everything I had worked for was going to fall apart because of the math section of the SAT. Having you as a coach was the best part of this insane process and my mom and I have no doubt that I wouldn't be going to Columbia if it weren't for your help. I'm excited about Columbia and about the scholarship (even though I'm not really sure what being a "John Jay scholar" means) and am taking the time to reflect on what it is I want to do with my life. Thank you again, so very much! –B.S., Private Counseling student
We are ecstatic that P was accepted to MIT through early admissions. We would like to express our deep gratitude to you, Yvonne, and others at Top Tier for guiding, supervising, and counseling P through the college admissions process! –L.A., Private Counseling parents

J. exceeded my expectations for B’s Personal Boot Camp. She was experienced and informative regarding the admissions process, and worked well with B to complete 13 essays in a weekend. The program was so organized and the best part was completing so many essays in such a short time period.I had many questions regarding the admission process and she answered all of them completely. She also reassured me about B.’s college choices and suggested others. I was really impressed with J.! She worked extremely well with B. and it was a painless process for me as a parent. B.’s applications are complete without any arguments or stress!Overall, it was a great experience and J.'s strategy with B.’s applications worked perfectly. J. was a pleasure to work with and really helped his applications come to life. I have recommended TTA to a friend, and this is my second time using your services. My older son was accepted to his first choice college.” –T.F., parent of Personal Boot Camp student
H’s expertise and ability to improve my writing was so beneficial! She elevated my essays and helped me to bring out my own creativity and voice. Hannah went above and beyond to be responsive and helpful. She always responded in a timely manner, and her feedback was generous and constructive. I thought this program was great; I wasn't able to attend the regular Boot Camp and found this to be an excellent alternative that worked with my schedule. I highly recommend Top Tier Admissions! The work I did with Hannah definitely elevated my essays beyond what I would've been capable of on my own. Knowing I had an expert there to help, and wasn't doing this on my own, also greatly reduced my stress levels. I will be forever grateful to Hannah for all of her assistance. It was truly a pleasure working with her, and you're lucky to have someone with her level of expertise on your staff. Thank you for matching me with her. -- P.C., Essay Guidance Program student, Duke
Since the Duke ED results came out we have been living in a state of euphoria! So super excited!! Thank you so much for all the guidance, motivation, and encouragement you gave T to prepare her for her dream school. Without your help, T would not have had such a great application. –P.S., Private Counseling parent

Thank you so much again!” –R.E., Grad School Essay Guidance student
I just wanted to let you know that I was accepted ED to Tulane!!  J, I want to thank you for all the time and effort you put in to working with me both in Boston as well as over the last few months.  M., I am so thankful I had the opportunity to go to Boot Camp. It was incredibly valuable. In fact, the head of college counseling at my high school said my “Why Tulane” essay was the best she has ever seen! – C.T., Application Boot Camp student
Tulane Class of 2023
P has heard from two schools, Sewanee and Davidson. She got into both!  We expected a Sewanee acceptance after her visit, but it is a comfort to know she got in.  Davidson was a total unknown. But she got in, to a school with a 15% or so transfer acceptance rate. That is just awesome. I don't know if she ends up there, but it is really a great shot of confidence and happiness after a rather dismal twelve months. Thank you for your advice, thoughts and words through all of this.I tend to think this validates the essays. At least one very selective school liked what she wrote and liked her total package. That pleases me but also makes me hopeful for news to come. At any rate, I thought you would like to know, and to express my thanks for all of your time, thoughts and energy. –M.K., parent, Transfer Essay Guidance Program
I want to express my gratitude for your passion, dedication and care in helping K to showcase his personal story and qualities in the college admissions process. I could not be more pleased with the guidance you have given K over the past five years. For this I will forever be thankful. All the best to you and your family! S.R., Private Counseling parent
